About Francis

Francis Gonsalves is a Jesuit of the Gujarat Province, Western India, and former principal of the Jesuit-run Vidyajyoti College of Theology in Delhi, India, where he has taught for 16 years. He firmly believes that one must not just study theology but do theology, meaning theology should permeate and animate every sphere of life since it is God's way of looking at our world and seeking to transform it according to God's will and vision.

He is interested and involved in doing contextual theology, prison ministry, interdisciplinary approaches to theology, interfaith dialogue and interfaith initiatives, socio-religious and subaltern movements, networking with committed groups on social-justice issues, bringing religion to animate socio-political life, developing poetry, music, art, dance and drama as resources of theology.

Francis will teach a course, "Church Renewal: Franciscan Leaven, Jesuit Lights" at JST in the spring 2014 semester. He will arrive at JST after spending the fall semester lecturing in Seoul, South Korea.
