Sophia House Community
Sisters who travel to Berkeley to participate in the Women of Wisdom and Action initiative will be welcomed into an inter-congregational living space, Sophia House. There they will live together with other sisters from different parts of Asia, creating a new spiritual and human home away from home. Aided by a community facilitator, a religious herself who knows the Jesuit School of Theology and the surrounding Bay Area, the sisters who come together in this Women of Wisdom and Action community will become a supportive family to one another as they accompany each other through the program.
The U.S. American women religious will provide a wider community for the sisters who are coming to study. The vast and varied experience of the women congregations in this country, in the building of social networks, healthcare systems, and in building community infrastructures from scratch, provides a backdrop and framework from which to draw. Through leadership development experiences, personal encounters, mentoring, and spiritual formation, the students will encounter and contextualize the rich experience of their U.S. counterparts.
