California invite you to a presentation and panel discussion on:
The Widening Digital Divide
While Internet use and information technology is expanding, the digital
divide is widening for some groups in California. The Public Policy
Institute of California (PPIC) will present the results of its benchmark
survey on Californians' access to information technology, including
computer ownership, access to the Internet, and the use of mobile
devices. The survey, conducted in collaboration with the California
Emerging Technology Fund, also looks at perceptions of the role of
government in areas such as Internet regulation and broadband access and
availability.
The presentation will be followed by a panel discussion led by PPIC
president, CEO, and survey director Mark Baldassare, an expert in public
opinion, including political, social, economic, and environmental
attitudes.
This event will be held on Thursday, July 24, 2008, from 11:30 to 1:30

STATE OF THE NET WEST
CONFERENCE
with
Congresswoman Zoe Lofgren
Congressman Mike Honda
Congressman Robert Goodlatte
Wednesday, August 6, 2008
8:30 - 2:30 pm - Lunch served.
Santa Clara University School of Law,
500 El Camino Real, Santa Clara, California
Location: California Mission Room, Benson Center
Co-sponsored by the Advisory Committee to the Congressional Internet Caucus and the High Tech Law Institute at Santa Clara University School of Law.
Please join Congresswoman Zoe Lofgren, Congressman Mike Honda, Congressman Robert Goodlatte, academic scholars, public interest advocates and industry executives for a roundtable discussion on top technology policy issues. The discussion is designed as a channel for West Coast thought leaders from the academic community and private sector to help inform the technology policy issues debated in Washington and better reflect the fast-paced evolution of the marketplace.
The Congressional Internet Caucus Advisory Committee hosts the annual "State of the Net Conference" in Washington to frame many of the technology policy debates that Congress grapples with throughout the year. State of the Net has grown into the largest and most influential information technology policy conference in the country to discuss technology trends and the enormous challenges that lawmakers, industry leaders and citizens must confront and resolve. While the State of the Net Conference has been an unmitigated success at framing the debate in Washington, an infusion of intellectual capital from the West Coast significantly enhances the State of the Net discussions.
Congresswoman Lofgren, Congressman Honda and Congressman Goodlatte will lead the discussion; however, the format will also allow dynamic interactions with and among all the participants. Topics will include the future of reputation online, ISP immunity from user created content, and the future of cloud computing.
Space is limited, so please send RSVP at http://www.netcaucus.org/events/2008/sotnwest/ by Monday, August 4. For more information visit http://www.netcaucus.org/ .
