Prof. Alexander Leads 5th Bertrand Russell Peace Foundation Tribunal
Professor George Alexander recently conducted a Bertrand Russell Peace Foundation sponsored "trial" of coercive psychiatry in Berlin Germany. Bertrand Russell was a distinguished philosopher who campaigned tirelessly for peace and human rights in his lifetime.
The proceedings, which ran two days and were broadcast world wide on the internet, led a jury of luminaries including feminist author Kate Millett, Paolo Coelho renowned Brazilian author, Ken Coates, British professor and former member of the European Parliament and six other distinguished members to file a decision against the use of psychiatric coercion world wide. The UN Commissioner on Human Rights sent a delegate to the trial. It was the fifth Russell tribunal. The first 4 dealt with: war crimes in Vietnam, repression in Latin America, Freedom of Opinion in West Germany, and the condition of American Indians.
Professor Alexander has long used his free time to lecture abroad and in distant parts of the U.S.. In the last year he has lectured at the Association for Teaching and Research of Intellectual Property in Santorini, Greece, the University of Bologna, The Danube University near Vienna (both on their home campuses). The Congress of the International Association of Law and Mental Health in Sienna, Italy and the American Psychological Association in Washington, D.C. among others. He also debated Columbia Law Professor George Fletcher on the Use of the Insanity Defense on Public Radio's Justice Talking broadcast from Independence Hall, Philadelphia.
