Research Guide for MGMT 006
Business Ethics
1. Identify one company based on the criteria and procedures given in the description of the "Team Project for Business Ethics."
1.1. If your team chooses a specific company – and this company meets all of the assignment requirements – then go to #2 below. As long as a public company is chosen, retrieving the required data for a company will be straightforward. If a private company is selected, attempts to gather all of the required company data from the Internet or other resources available to you through the Library will almost certainly be unsuccessful. So, if a private company is selected, be sure your team has a cooperative resource person(s) within the company and that you have permission from the company to use in your paper the information you obtain from this resource person(s).
1.2. If your team decides to research a particular ethical/social issue, for example, international arms sales, or genetically modified food, but does not have a specific company in mind, then preliminary research is required in order to identify potential companies which might be involved in an ethical controversy. The two most important ways to identify companies allegedly involved in an international ethics controversy is to search on the Internet and to search the business press. Try searching: 1) the Internet using the terms given on p.5 of the Project description, using various search engines, 2) the websites listed on p.7 of the Project description, and 3) the business press using the various specialized databases available to you through the Library.
