Web Resources

California Climate Change Portal
This state site provides links to climate-change research, California's Global Warming Solutions Act, figures and charts showing aspects of California's greenhouse gas inventory, and more. It is part of the larger California Environmental Protection Agency's Air Resources Board.

Educational Global Climate Modeling (EdGCM)
Research-quality global climate modeling that can be run on personal computers. The software allows students to design experiments and run simulations. The EdGCM Project, which includes exercises on global warming, is supported by the National Science Foundation and NASA.

Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC)
Established by the World Meterological Organization and the U.N. Environment Programme, IPCC assesses a range of information related to human-caused climate change. One of the most important climate organizations, IPCC includes useful reports, such as CO2 Capture and Storage and Mitigation of Climate Change.

National Climatic Data Center
This site, from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), bills itself as the "World's largest collection of climatic data." The free data includes the following: comparative climatic data, wind data, storm data. You can, for instance, download monthly climate statistics for all stations in California. Some fee-based information is low-cost; for examples, climate maps (pdf) cost only a dollar or two each.

Pew Center on Global Climate Change
The Pew Center "provides research, analysis and recommendations for federal, state, and international policies related to climate change." Links to its 60+ reports are organized both chronologically and by topic: environmental impact, economic, solutions. The Pew Center also analyzes legislation.

RealClimate
RealClimate describes itself as "a commentary site on climate science by working climate scientists for the interested public and journalists." This site's news and discussions among climate scientists provides insight into the latest thinking and research in the field. The dozen or so topic areas include greenhouse gases, climate modeling, and oceans. Discussions in these areas are replete with links to papers, glossary items, etc.

World Meteorological Organization (WMO)
This U.N. agency focuses on "Earth's atmosphere, its interaction with oceans, the climate it produces, and resulting distribution of water resources." The site is somewhat hard to navigate because of its size. Use the dropdown menus on the homepage to target an area of interest.
