These directories attempt to provide current information of the sort prospective authors would need, including scope/coverage, acceptance/rejection rates, number of reviewers, time required for review, availability of reviewers' comments, fees charged to review or publish the manuscript, copies required and manuscript topics as well as contact information. About 1100 journals are included covering education rather broadly and with an American audience. This is really three separate databases which overlap a bit in topical coverage but must be searched individually.

The list of journals covered is expanding as are the dates of coverage. In 2002 some went back to 1988. In 2003 back issues from 1985-1987 will be added. The database is updated daily. Elsevier journals focus on science, technology, medicine, and business, and include high impact-factor journals such as the Trends and Current Opinion series.

Indexes and abstracts articles at least one column in length from over 544 different English language periodicals in the social sciences, which includes anthropology, psychology, sociology, ethnic studies, political science, economics, geography, urban studies, and more. Fulltext of articles are available from about 175 of these periodicals. Indexing goes back to 1983. Abstracts began with January 1994. Fulltext availability varies title to title, but may go back to 1995. Updated daily. For indexing of articles appearing prior to 1983, use Humanities & Social Sciences Retrospective.
