IngentaConnect: How to get started!

The Ingenta Library Gateway is a searchable database of more than 11 million citations from over 20,000 journals. The service includes several features:

Searchable Database:
You can search the multidisciplinary database for relevant citations by keyword, title, or authors; or you can browse the table of contents of journals.
Journal Article Delivery:
After you create an Ingenta account, you can use the document delivery service and receive articles electronically, or by fax. The library subsidizes this service for faculty as long as the library does not have a print or electronic subscription to the journal.
Reveal Research Alerts:
After you create an Ingenta account, you can stay current with your research by receiving via e-mail the table of contents of your favorite journals, or a weekly list of new articles on topics of interest to you.

To access the IngentaConnect database:

You can access Ingenta through the list of electronic resources or by going directly to IngentaConnect.

To create an account:

The first time you connect to Ingenta, enter your barcode number in the box labeled:
New faculty and staff users, enter barcode number here.

You will be asked to enter information about yourself (your profile) and to select a user name and a password. Next time you connect to Ingenta, simply enter your user id and password. You can change your profile at a later time by selecting the option Manage Profile after you sign in, and then clicking on My Personal Details.

Note: When you create your profile, be sure to enter your SCU e-mail address; otherwise you won't be subsidized for the journal article delivery service. Also enter your own FAX number or the article will come to the library.

To Search the Database:

  • Choose the button labeled Search Options for the most comprehensive search.
  • You can search by keywords from the article title, author and journal title.
  • To browse the table of contents of a particular journal, scroll down to the bottom of the search screen and enter the title of the journal.
  • Ingenta allows you to save your searches for future use.

To Order Articles:

When you get the results of a search, you will have several options:

  • To know your options, first click on article availability.
  • For the articles owned (in paper or electronically) by the library, you may have the option of downloading/printing the article or having it e-mailed to you. Or you may be told that the article is available in the library and given the call number of the journal.
  • For the articles not owned by the library, you can request the article. Some of them will be available by electronic delivery to your computer, others by fax/ariel delivery. To request the article, click on Proceed to Checkout. Payment method for faculty/staff defaults to the library account because we subsidize the service.

Note: Some articles cannot be ordered via Ingenta. If it is not available, use the regular BroncoXpress Interlibrary Loan service.
