General Anthropology Resources
General resources for Anthropology can be found by going to the Orradre Library's Anthropology Research Guide.
Among the resources listed are Internet sites which themselves have links to many other relevant Internet sites.
For example, one interesting Internet site you may want to check out is the Links Directory at the University of California, Santa Barbara Anthropology Web Site. Also you will want to check out the University of Alabama Department of Anthropology Jump Station for other relevant sites. You can then explore the many links to Internet sites that may be of interest to you. Have fun!
Ethnographic Studies
Orradre Library has an extensive collection of ethnographic studies in its collection. Most of these will be found in call numbers "DU" or "GN." The letters "DU" means "history of Oceania (South Seas)," which includes, Melanesia (DU 490), Micronesia (DU 500) and Polynesia (DU 510).
The letters "GN" means "Anthropology" and resources on Australia and the Pacific Islands can be found in the call number range "GN 662" through "GN 671," (i.e., Anthropology of Melanesia will be found under call number "GN 668," Micronesia under "GN 669," and Polynesia under "670," with "other islands under "GN 671").
To find books in the library under these call numbers, you can either browse through the books on the shelves or you can perform a call number search in OSCAR and browse the library's holdings this way.
You can search for ethnographic studies by doing subject and keyword searches in OSCAR. You can browse through a list of subject headings in OSCAR by selecting the "subject search" option and typing in your subject term, for example, "melanesia," (OSCAR is not case sensitive, so don't worry about capitalization of names - but do get your spelling right!). You can do this same search as a "keyword" search as well, but in this case you will retrieve a list of books rather than a list of subject headings. Some other subject terms you might try are: "micronesia" and "polynesia," "new guinea," "samoa," etc. Experiment with different terms and types of searches.
