What is Online Librarian 24/7?
This online reference service allows SCU students, faculty and staff to ask a librarian questions about research, library resources, and library policies. It’s a collaborative service provided by 21 Jesuit universities across the country.
Who can use this service?
The service is available to current students, faculty, and staff of the participating Jesuit institutions.
What types of questions will be answered?
  • A specific piece of information (examples: a fact, a date, spelling of a name)
  • Verification of citations
  • Suggestions on an appropriate electronic or print resource to find information for your project or research paper
  • Assistance in the use of electronic resources (online catalog, databases, etc.)
  • Questions about the library services
Who answers the questions?
Your questions will be answered by SCU librarians, librarians from other Jesuit universities, or by contractual librarians.
How is my privacy or anonymity protected?
Privacy Statement: This privacy statement explains what we do with the personal information collected from our patrons when they use the Online Librarian 24/7 service. More specifically, it explains what personal information is collected, how it is used, and how long it is kept.

When you use the service, you are required to provide your name, institution affiliation, status (faculty, student, staff, etc.) and email address. Entering your name and email address is not required, but it will allow us to send you a transcript of the session or to send you additional information related to your question. W will disclose your personal information only when it is necessary to answer your request for information. For example, we may refer your question and your personal information to a librarian at another Jesuit institution. We will not share your email address or use it for other purposes.

The transcript of your virtual reference session and your personal information (if provided) are stored on our server. We keep the transcripts and make them available to supervising librarians for quality control, but we purge all your personal information from the system after 30 days.

Is there any software required to use Online Librarian 24/7?
No. All you need is an internet connection of 128kb/sec modem or faster. The Online Librarian 24/7 web application does not require any installation or configuration on the part of the customer. It works with the following browsers: Internet Explorer 6+, Netscape 7.2+, Firefox 1.5+, Safari 1.2+.
