Technology Equipped Classrooms
Each classroom has, as a minimum configuration, an overhead projector and screen. Many classrooms are also equipped with data/video projection capability, slide projectors, or televisions with VCRs. A room-by-room listing of classroom equipment installations is also available the Astra Scheduling System under "view rooms." If you encounter problems using these facilities, or would like to make suggestions for improvement, please contact Media Services. Requests for additional equipment are accepted and provided on a first-come first-served basis by contacting Media Services.
Video
Many classrooms on campus are equipped with monitors or video projectors allowing "self service" playback of videotapes. The remaining classrooms are served by televisions rolled in on carts.
Computer Projection
Use of computer projection in the classroom in 2006-07 increased 27% over the previous year, and 102% over the past five years. Faculty and students are using a variety of applications - including Internet connection, spread sheets, simulations, and presentations packages - in the classroom.
Faculty and student needs for computer projection are being met with a combination of permanently installed and portable systems. Data Projectors are permanently mounted in the following classrooms: Alumni Science 120, 220; Art F, G; Arts and Sciences 128, 133, 134, 135; Bannan 138, 139, 142, 210, 211, 236, 238, 241, 331, 332; Bannan Engineering 105, 106, 107, 120, 304, 325, 326, 608, 618, 602; Casa 103, 107, 108; Daly Science 201, 202, 203, 206, 207; Kenna 102, 104, 105, 107, 109, 111, 212, 214, 216, 218, 304, 306, 308, 310; Kennedy, 108, 109; O'Connor 102, 204, 205, 206; and Sobrato 19, and C. The remaining classrooms are served by portable data projectors.
Faculty and students can hook up their laptop to these systems or request a laptop be delivered from Media Services. IF using their own laptop, presenters should test their laptop compatibility with a particular room system prior to use. For assistance in testing the in-room systems with your personal laptop, please call Hugo Leal, x4520.
To order computer projector services, please call Media Services, x4520.
Classroom Ethernet Connectivity
All classrooms on campus have ethernet ports allowing connection to the campus wide network and the internet. Connecting your computer to a campus ethernet connection requires that you have an ethernet card in your laptop or pc and have a novell account on campus. If a guest presenter is bringing their own pc, they can log onto the campus network if they have an ethernet card, a cat 5 data cable, and novell netware from any educational institution installed on their computer. They will, however, be limited to Internet connection and not be able access any campus server. For access to the university servers, they must have an SCU faculty or staff member's password.
Multimedia Lab
The Multimedia Lab in Varsi Hall is available to both faculty and students for individual or group work. The networked labs can also be used for teaching (they have data projectors and printers). If you need to have any special software loaded for your students, please call x4520 to make arrangements.
The Instructional Technology Resource Specialists, Michael Ballen, Gloria Hofer, and James Linehan are located in the Lab.
Viewing/Taping Rooms
Two rooms (seating 30 and 45) in Media Services (Ricard Observatory) are available for daytime or evening film/video showings, 7 days a week, until 10:00 p.m..
Using a variety of spaces throughout the Media Services' facilities, we can support videotaping of up to 5 small groups (4-6 students each) simultaneously.
Instructor need not be present.
