Miller Center Impact Investment Expert Kohler Speaks at JOIM Conference Sept. 27

Miller Center's John Kohler will speak to professional investors about "impact investing."

SANTA CLARA, Calif., Sept. 20, 2016 — John Kohler, executive fellow and senior director of impact capital at Santa Clara University’s Miller Center for Social Entrepreneurship, will speak Sept. 27 on risk and other issues that investors should consider when investing in the social entrepreneurship sector.

The talk,  “Impact Investing: Portfolio Assembly and Risk Management,” will be held Tuesday, September 27, 1:30 p.m., at the Journal of Investment Management (JOIM) Conference Series at the Palmer House in Chicago.

Kohler is an expert in impact investing (investing not just for profit, but also for social impact), venture capital, and corporate executive management. He pioneered the Demand Dividend, a flexible way for investors to lend to socially beneficial businesses and be repaid based on future, variable cash flow, rather than fixed payment terms.

Kohler is also co-founder and director of Toniic, a syndication network of impact investors.

The Sept. 25-27 conference is co-sponsored by JOIM and the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University, and features interactive discussions about long-run risks, returns, and environmental, social, and governance investing.

“There has been a dramatic increase in transparency and information about peer-vetted non-public investment choices for investors,” said Kohler. “That gives investors and investment advisers exciting new options to build portfolios that are balanced using traditional asset allocation, modeling, and risk management tools.”

Vitali Kalesnik, vice president at Research Affiliates, Newport Beach, Calif., will join Kohler and moderate a follow-up discussion.
