Santa Clara University's Center of Performing Arts to Help Japanese Earthquake, Tsunami Victims

Sunday, Apr. 10, 2011
SANTA CLARA, Calif. April 6, 2011—Santa Clara University’s Center of Performing Arts (CPA) will present Gilbert and Sullivan’s The Mikado and will donate a portion of the ticket proceeds to Japan’s earthquake and tsunami relief efforts. All ticket sales from the 2 p.m. performance on Saturday, April 16 and $2 of every ticket sold to all other performances will be donated to the American Red Cross.

With more than 11,000 people dead and more than 16,000 still missing, Japan needs help more than ever.

“This is the chance to change the lives devastated by this tragic event,” says Butch Coyne, CPA director. “As a university that’s committed to engagement in social justice and enriching the lives globally, the Center of Performing Arts hopes this donation will show that we are thinking about the victims during this difficult time.”

Based in Japan, The Mikado is a musical comedy that revolves around the forbidden love of Nanki-Poo and already engaged Yum-Yum. Gilbert and Sullivan take the audience through a delightfully satirical, silly, and surprising course of events that will leave you laughing and singing in your seat.

Performances for The Mikado will be held on April 15 at 8 p.m., April 16 at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m., and April 17 at 2 p.m. at the Mayer Theatre at SCU. To buy tickets or for more information, please call 408-554-4015 or visit our website.
