SANTA CLARA, Calif. March 27, 2012 - Rep. Mike Honda (D-CA), a member of the Congressional Internet Caucus, will discuss technology policy issues including the battle over SOPA (Stop Online Piracy Act) and the crisis in U.S. STEM education (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) in a public "technology town hall" meeting at Santa Clara University.

The event will be held Tuesday, April 3, from 9:15 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., at SCU’s Williman Room, Benson Memorial Center, 500 El Camino Real, Santa Clara, CA 95053.

Rep. Honda is expected to discuss the major technology issues under debate in policy and legal circles from California to Capitol Hill. Major themes include long-term technology workforce development;  economic growth and job creation through STEM education; and what the recent Congressional battle over SOPA means for Silicon Valley's engagement with Washington.

Santa Clara University School of Law Professor Eric Goldman will join Rep. Honda as a co-panelist.

In addition to his role representing Silicon Valley on the bipartisan Congressional Internet Caucus, Rep. Honda serves on two key budget and fiscal committees in the House of Representatives — the Appropriations and Budget committees.

Rep. Honda's talk is part of the annual State of the Net West program, co-sponsored by the Congressional Internet Caucus Advisory Committee and the High Tech Law Institute at Santa Clara University School of Law.

Another member of the Congressional Internet Caucus, Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-Utah), will discuss technology policy issues with a Silicon Valley audience May 24 at Wilson, Sonsini, Goodrich and Rosati in Palo Alto.
