Advanced Placement Exam Information
Santa Clara University participates in the Advanced Placement (AP) Program to recognize college-level academic achievement prior to matriculation and to encourage students to pursue advanced studies in their area of interest. Credit or placement is determined by the appropriate department based on review of the student's AP scores, sometimes in the context of supplemental departmental examinations. Usually a score of 4 or 5 is required for credit to be granted.
It is important for you to know your AP scores for academic planning during Summer Orientation. Note that only some Core Curriculum requirements can be satisfied with AP test credit: Second Language, Mathematics, Natural Science, and Social Science.
For first year students who completed AP exams in May 2015, the Office of the Registrar will receive the scores electronically from the CollegeBoard at the beginning of July. Once the Office of the Registrar has received the electronic reports, the Office of the Registrar will will upload and post the scores then send emails to first year students letting them know that scores have been received and processed (as well as other test credit and/or transfer credit). First year students will have access to view their test credit and/or transfer credit in their eCampus accounts once they are matriculated in the system.
IMPORTANT: Note that score reports from May 2015 exams do not normally include AP scores completed during sophomore and/or junior year of high school.
