What has been your favorite class at SCU and why?
Last quarter I took an International Relations course that I really enjoyed. The first half of the quarter we studied diplomacy, foreign relations and current international conflict. We then participated in a simulation with college students in Panama, Florida, and Lebanon. We divided into various Middle Eastern nations with each person in charge of a very specific position. For example, I was the Foreign Defense Minister of Kuwait. After writing an extensive research paper, our teams responded to real life scenarios projected 3 months in the future. Every other day, our teacher would post the moves of each country online. Our job was to react to the moves of other nations while still remaining in character. Throughout the simulation, we were responsible for calling meetings between diplomats, moving troops, addressing grievances, and calling for economic and social changes. I really loved the simulation because allowed me to experience firsthand the complexities of international relations.

What is your favorite activity to do at SCU?
I’m a big fan of sports, so I really love playing pickup games a couple nights a week. Whether it’s soccer on Bellomy field or ultimate Frisbee on the lawn in front of the library, a fun time is always a guarantee! Games seem to go on at all hours of the day and each week is an opportunity to meet new people. Whether you’re a old pro or just want to get some exercise, I definitely think joining in on pickup games is a great way to spend a few hours a week.

What advice would you give to the Class of 2013?
Get involved! Don’t be afraid to try something new. College is all about breaking out of you shell. Santa Clara has a lot of amazing opportunities from clubs to teams to trips and internships. The best way to meet people is to get out of your room and have fun!

Why do you love SCU?
Like many incoming freshman, I visited a wide range of colleges trying to find the right one for me. The first time I saw the Santa Clara campus I was struck by its obvious beauty. More than that though, I loved the atmosphere here on campus. The energy and community is so vibrant! Whether it’s the intimate and challenging classes or the school spirit that comes alive at basketball and soccer games, everything Santa Clara does is above and beyond the minimum!
