OLLI@SCU Curriculum Committee Volunteers
Dear OLLI Members,
From Liz Salzer Curriculum Committee Chair:
The Curriculum Committee is responsible for selecting, organizing, and evaluating all of OLLI’s courses (currently about 65 a year). The Committee is also responsible for the popular Destination Learning program and the OLLI Distinguished Speaker Series. The Curriculum Committee meets monthly and members, except for the Chair, serve two-year terms. Much of the Committee’s work is conducted via email between meetings, and includes correspondence with both other Committee members and potential instructors. New Curriculum Committee terms begin on July 1. The Committee does not need any more volunteers for the 2015 – 2016 year, with one exception. The Committee previously had a member who was an emeritus SCU faculty member. As this perspective was often valuable to the Committee’s discussions, an OLLI volunteer who is a retired or emeritus SCU faculty member, or is a current faculty member on phased retirement, would be a welcome addition to the Committee and would be appointed immediately to serve the remainder of a term ending on June 30, 2017.
Several present members of the Committee have terms expiring on June 30, 2016. Although some members may serve another term on the Committee, it is likely that a call for new volunteers for the 2016 – 2018 term will be issued in spring, 2016. Watch for announcements on the OLLI website and in our monthly newsletter, The Link. Potential members should have good organizational and communication skills. Prior experience with program planning is also helpful. Depending on the mix of backgrounds among the continuing members of the Committee, certain subject area expertise may also be preferred for volunteers at some times.
Potential members must submit name, contact information, and either a current CV/resume or a brief description of their background and reason for interest to the Curriculum Committee Chair.
Liz Salzer, Curriculum Committee Chair, 2013 - 2016
