Gift Giving Unwrapped
Taught by Sunwolf, Professor of Communication. The relational stresses and strategies of giving and receiving gifts are explored, review intriguing research on gender differences, miscommunication, disappointment, and a new concept, “gifthate” which describes the negative feelings and attitudes some people hold that cause them to detest, dread, or dislike the task of giving or receiving gifts. Based on her new book, the course takes a lively, humorous (but research-grounded) approach to our struggles to find the perfect gift (or pretend we just received it!).
Vocation: The Renaissance Within
Taught by Diane Dreher, Professor of English. Middle life and retirement, life's inevitable changes, call us to a new awareness of ourselves as we ask, "What gives me joy?" "Where is my purpose now?" This class combines insights from Renaissance lives, Ignatian spiritual practice, and developmental psychology to help you discern your gifts and discover new opportunities in this season of your life.
Discovering the Bay Area's Native and Colonial Past
Taught by Russell Skowronek, Professor of Anthropology. In this course we will explore Santa Clara Valley's rich cultural and natural history as revealed by anthropologists, biologists, historians and Native Americans.
