Howard Anawalt - Rest in Peace
Thursday, Aug. 8, 2013
Dear Members of the Santa Clara University Community,
Yesterday we received word that long-time law faculty member and Professor Emeritus Howard Anawalt died August 6 peacefully at home in his sleep. Howard joined Santa Clara University School of Law in 1967 and specialized in constitutional law, torts and intellectual property law. With his expertise in intellectual property law, he was one of the first faculty members to address in his teaching the legal questions arising out of the high tech industry. He remained an active scholar and member of the Law School community even after he retired in 2003. Howard held a passion for teaching and a commitment to his profession which resonated with generations of students in his decades of service to the law school and the University community.
Howard's death brings sadness to those who knew and loved him, including his wife, Sue, his sons Paul and Brad and their families, and his many students and colleagues. He will be remembered as a kind and generous person, who never hesitated to offer assistance to his students and colleagues. As a community we join with all who mourn him and thank God for the gift of his full and vibrant life. We hold Howard up to God and offer our prayers for him and his family.
If you would like to send condolences, notes may be sent to his wife, Sue, care of the Law School:
A memorial service to celebrate Howard's life will be held:
Please keep Howard, Sue, and his family in your prayers. May he rest in peace.
Michael E. Engh, S.J.
