Santa Clara's Tapestry of Excellence:
The Education of the Whole Person
This President’s report highlights examples of faculty, students, and staff excelling in the education of the whole person. Most encouraging are the examples of faculty and students collaborating in research and service to the community. They demonstrate, in varied ways, how intellectual excellence in the search for knowledge, truth, and wisdom in every field enriches both their personal and professional lives and makes the world a better place, especially for the most fragile.
This kind of education of the whole person captures our Catholic, Jesuit vision of integrating a life of faith with promoting the common good. In short, this vision seeks to educate leaders of competence, conscience, and compassion. Then, our graduates will enter the marketplace of work and life with knowledge, real life experience, and a commitment to making ethical decisions and fashioning a more humane and just world, whether for the global community or their neighborhood or faith communities.
Enjoy reading about the tapestry and tradition of excellence related to our four Centers of Distinction and the College of Arts and Sciences and four professional schools.
This excellence is made possible through the generosity of our alumni and friends. I am pleased to report that the Campaign for Santa Clara, "Celebrating Our Mission, Transforming Lives," has exceeded $200 million toward our goal of $350 million. My sincere thanks to all who have generously given to Santa Clara.
We are moving forward with confidence into what I know will be a bright future for Santa Clara University.
Paul Locatelli, S.J.
