International Ambassador

Why do you want to serve as an International Ambassador?
I'm interested in serving as an International Ambassador because my study abroad experience helped me grow as a person by taking me out of my comfort zone. As an ambassador I would be able to help fellow classmates prepare them for what they are about to experience and get them excited about it.
Deciding factor for studying abroad?
I'm infatuated with Latin American and Brazil has become such a key player in Latin American in recent years that as a Political Science major it was hard to resist. I also wanted to avoid the most popular study abroad sites like Barcelona because I wanted to explore "the unexplored" so to speak.
Defining Moment Abroad?
A defining moment in my experience happened when I took part in a capoeira "roda," which in portueguese means circle. Capoeira is a type of martial art which was created by slaves during the colonization of Brazil. It was surreal to be apart of something that has been practiced for centuries which caused me to reflect on the meaning of culture and how political events shape a nation.
Advice to Prospective study abroad students?
I would advise them to spend sometime apart from other Americans to maximize their immersion into the host country's culture.
