Why do you want to serve as an International Ambassador?
I had an amazing time abroad and I would love to help other students prepare for and make the most of their study abroad experiences. The right mindset makes a big difference in the quality of one's study abroad experience and I think that I have helpful pointers for students who are planning on going abroad anywhere.
Deciding factor for studying abroad?
The internship opportunity through the SCU London program really separated it from other locations and programs. Being able to gain international business experience is a unique and invaluable opportunity and I took away quite a lot from my placement at an accountancy recruitment agency.
Defining Moment Abroad?
During our week off in mid October, I took a week long trip to Paris and Italy. Seeing the Vatican in Rome really opened my eyes to the history and significance of religion, particularly Catholicism. I was raised in an Atheist household and so this was very new to me. Throughout my trip over Europe I saw dozens of beautiful and ancient churches, which furthered my awe for the power of religion.
Advice to Prospective study abroad students?
More than anything else, I recommend to go into it with an open mind. You have to become comfortable being uncomfortable, since you are going to frequently be outside of your comfort zone. But I think that this is how we most grow, which is why it is essential to expect such discomfort. When this discomfort catches you off guard is when you can become homesick, sad, and not make the most of your experiences. Finally, be ready to become a changed person; many times you will find yourself thinking and doing things that you have never done before.
