Acting Associate Provost for Research Initiatives

Michelle Marvier is serving as Acting Associate Provost for Research Initiatives during the 2009-10 academic year while Amy Shachter is on sabbatical leave.  Amy will resume her position upon completion of her sabbatical.


Michelle, a graduate of SCU with a Ph.D. from UC Santa Cruz, is an associate professor in the Department of Biology and the Environmental Studies Institute.  She has published widely in the field of conservation biology and ecological risk assessment (including four articles in Science) and has received grants from the National Science Foundation and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.  Michelle received this year’s Award for Recent Achievement in Scholarship at the Faculty Recognition Reception on September 15.  Last fall she received the Bernard Hubbard, S.J., Creative Collaboration Award from the College of Arts and Sciences in recognition of her research collaborations with undergraduate students.
