Chicano Latino Heritage Month: Blowout! Sal Castro and the Chicano Struggle for Educational Justice

4:00 PM to 5:30 PM

Sal Castro, a historic figure of the Chicano Movement of the late 1960s and 1970s, inspired the students in the East Los Angeles public schools to engage in  a massive school walkout for a week to protest a history of inferior education provided to Mexican Americans since the early 20th century.  These walkouts came to be known as the East L.A. Blowouts.  Dr. Mario Garcia, author of Blowout! Sal Castro and the Chicano Struggle for Educational Justice will discuss the life and times of Sal Castro and the movement.

A light reception and book-signing will follow the talk.
