University Award for Recent Achievement in Scholarship

The University Award for Recent Achievement in Scholarship recognizes a tenured faculty member or senior lecturer whose scholarly or creative work over the previous five years at Santa Clara University represents a major contribution to a field of knowledge or to the arts. 

Nomination Guidelines
1.  Nominations for the University Award for Recent Achievement in Scholarship are invited each Spring by the Associate Provost for Faculty Development.  Any Santa Clara University faculty member may nominate a colleague at SCU for the award.

2. Nomination letters may be mailed or e-mailed to:

3.  Letters of nomination should include:

• the name of the award
• the faculty member's name and department
• the nominee's qualifications for the award
• a summary, no longer than one page, written for the non-specialist, of the significance of the nominee's scholarship or pedagogy
• a current curriculum vitae of the nominee

4.  The following criteria are required for eligibility:

• The nominee must be a tenured faculty member or senior lecturer whose scholarly or creative work over the previous five years at Santa Clara University represents a major contribution to a field of knowledge or to the arts.
• The nominee has not previously won this award.

5.  Once nominated, a faculty member stays in the pool of candidates under active consideration for two years, and may be nominated again any number of times.

6.  The deadline for nominations will be announced annually by the Associate Vice Provost for Faculty Development.  For the 2010-11 academic year, the deadline is May 2, 2011.

7.  The recipient of the University Award for Recent Achievement in Scholarship will be determined by the University Research Committee.  Members of the committees who determine the awards and those to whom they report are ineligible for nomination.
