Before joining the Provost's office, Mr. Ryan spent eight years on the UCLA campus as a program administrator, researcher, and teaching associate studying the needs of faculty, staff, and students. His work in those capacities included conducting program assessments, analyzing policy, and examining short- and long-term trends facing higher education. With his technical background in assessment, he has advised administrators and boards of trustees about policies and practices that best facilitate student learning and faculty development. During his tenure as managing editor of New Directions for Community Colleges, he helped develop volumes that explored student tracking systems, gender equity, governance, part-time faculty, academic partnerships and international education. Mr. Ryan has a B.S. degree in political science from Santa Clara University and a M.A. degree in education from UCLA. He currently is completing a doctorate in higher education policy.
