Barry Z. Posner is the Dean of the Leavey School of Business and Professor of Leadership. He assumed the Dean's position in 1997, after having served previously as Managing Partner of the Executive Development Center, and Associate Dean, Graduate Programs. Dr. Posner received a Bachelor of Arts (with honors) in Political Science from the University of California at Santa Barbara (1970), a Master of Arts in Public Administration from Ohio State University (1972), and a Doctorate in Organizational Behavior and Administrative Theory from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst (1976). Dr. Posner joined the faculty at SCU in 1976, and has received the President's Distinguished Faculty Award, the Dean's Extraordinary Faculty Award, and a number of other teaching and scholarly recognitions. In 2001 he received the McFeely Award from the International Management Council as recognition of being one of the nation's top management and leadership educators. Dr. Posner is an internationally renowned scholar in the area of leadership, as the co-author of seven books in this area, including the award winning and best-selling The Leadership Challenge. He has published over 80 articles in both academic and practitioner-oriented journals and publications, and currently serves as Section Editor for the Journal of Management, and on the editorial review board of the Journal of Business Ethics. Dr. Posner has consulted with organizations around the globe, and currently sits on the Board of Directors for the American Institute of Architects (AIA) and the San Jose Repertory Theatre.
