For the sake of updating you on my internship at Catering with a Cause, these past few weeks we’ve been pretty much only working on marketing collateral to be released soon. I’ve been making plenty of fliers, ads, and banners for both general advertising and special occasions. Needless to say, a lot of my time has been spent on Photoshop, at the printer’s, and at the post office. However, it’s given me quite an interesting perspective.

Although for all intents and purposes we’re a non-profit, we’ve been going about building our business as if it were a for-profit enterprise. This process has been quite thought-provoking for me in this sense. I’ve managed to find quite the niche here at Catering with a Cause, as I’ve been learning how to build a successful business, essentially from the ground up, while at the same time supporting a worthy cause. My boss, Mondo, has been teaching me the tricks of the trade; I can honestly say I’ve learned quite a bit, and I still have a solid 5 weeks left to go!

To sort of tie everything together and mention NPI, I’ve again come to the realization that I could still do work that would resemble a position in a for-profit company, but for a non-profit. I can have my cake, and eat it too. Without NPI, said metaphorical cake would, in all likelihood, not even exist, and I think that’s the most important thing to grasp from this blog post. Thanks again for reading!
