Residential Learning Communities

Modern Perspectives RLC

The Modern Perspectives RLC engages a range of economic, political, and social issues central to understanding our world at the start of the 21st century. Modern Perspectives brings together students with a rich variety of backgrounds and interests to build a residential community for both study and friendship. The energy and ideas of this diverse group make Modern Perspectives an exciting place to live and learn.

As a member of Modern Perspectives you will have opportunities to participate in a wide variety of educational and recreational activities. Over the years community members have undertaken service projects through Modern Perspectives Outreach and a week-long immersion trip to Tijuana, Mexico. They have also taken part in a weekend retreat to reflect on the topic of finding one’s vocation in life and gathered for a night of “pizza and politics” during the State of the Union Address. They have organized a number of activities just for enjoyment like a battle-of-the-sexes trivia contest, kayaking in Monterey, a trip to the rodeo, and a special behind-the-scenes tour at a San Jose Sharks’ hockey game. Whenever possible they also try to come together for community-wide celebrations such as barbecues and the annual Thanksgiving dinner.
