Welcome to the Xavier Residential Learning Community!Named after Francis Xavier, the fellow Basque companion of Ignatius of Loyola, the Xavier Residential Learning Community recognizes the world today as a global reality and sees itself as a place where students interested in global issues and problems can come together to better understand their world. Xavier is an RLC for those who want to make a difference in the world, and who want to participate in the Jesuit tradition of the integration of faith and justice. In Xavier, students have the opportunity to analyze the structures of ongoing globalization, explore the implications of global solidarity, and investigate how they might contribute to making a more just world.
One major way that Xavier fosters and invites global solidarity is through immersion programs. Last year Xavier students built houses in Mexico, participated in alternative spring breaks, and spent two weeks in El Salvador learning about the people, their culture, history, and struggles, and collaborating with them in service projects in rural parts of the country. The goal is to build a community of scholars with a global vision, a global consciousness. |
