Internship at: Nordstrom - By Nicole Batiuk '02

Nicole Batiuk, did her internship at Nordstrom. She is a senior psychology major.
Nordstrom is known for its exceptional customer service, loyalty, and serving the customer. As an intern, I was able to experience the functions of the company
from an insider’s point of view.

Much time and energy is devoted to training employees, as I spent many hours working with Training and Development alongside the other interns. This enriched my abilities to focus on learning what customers want, as well as what employees need. On the sales floor, in Human Resources and traveling with a Regional Merchandiser, I was able to experience many different facets of this phenomenal company. I was able to interact with customers on a daily basis and provide them with the best service possible. I utilized computer programs, as well as old-fashioned walking the floor to determine which product lines were selling and which were not. Using that information, I was able to critically analyze the reasons for their success and/or failure and make recommendations based on what I saw.

Not only was this internship important in experiential aspects, but personally, it helped me to recognize which areas of retail and management I love. The people I worked with for those fast-paced eight weeks took every opportunity to guide me in those directions, and I thank them for their genuine interest and support..
