Internship at: Walgreens - By Allison Roberts '02

Allison Roberts, is a senior marketing major; she did an internship this summer for Walgreens.

When I first read about the Walgreen internship ten-week program, I was a little intrigued about managing a drug store, but I was not expecting much. I figured I would be like any other employee in the store and would not have much responsibility, boy was I wrong. This ten week program is packed full of anything you would ever need to know regarding becoming a manager. The first four weeks I spent doing assistant manager training, which included register work, customer service, receiving warehouse, understanding the camera department, hallmark department, cosmetics department, and the pharmacy, opening and closing the store, and directing employees.

Once this training was finished, I was able to work on different projects the Walgreens Company has developed for its interns to help me understand what retail management is all about and how everything in a retail store comes together. The subjects of these projects were in all aspects of the store, from the camera department to the sales floor to the pharmacy to the stockroom. I chose the projects I was most interested in and worked on them on my own, asking my manager for guidance as needed. Through these projects and the assistant manager training I saw every aspect of running a retail store and gained valuable experience that will stick with me for a long time. Thank You Walgreens
