New RSSA President - By Yvonne Yip '03

Yvonne Yip
New RSSA
President
As a member of the RSSA for two years and being involved on different calibers, I am happy and excited to introduce myself as the new RSSA President. I'm a senior Marketing major, originally from the great town of Beaverton, Oregon. I plan on a career in the retail industry and am very happy to have the opportunity to be involved in a program such as the Retail Management Institute. This upcoming year with hold the traditional events and programs, but also hopefully will provide new ones as well.

We have a brand new executive board, which we are all excited about. The position of Vice President of External Relations is held by senior Erica Cooke and Vice President of Marketing is held by senior Jennifer Hooper. Senior Jennifer Wilt will hold the position she had previously as Webmaster. The other positions are held by junior Carin Posedel as Corporate Liaison, junior Jill Curran as Retail Weeks, junior Melissa Kline as Recruiting, junior Alex Della Sala as Publicity, junior Laura Del Santo as Newsletter and juniors Charla Davis and Brianna Donnegan will co-chair the position of fundraising. Everyone is very excited about making this upcoming year memorable and fun.

We have a lot of great events planned for the fall quarter this year. There is a tentative fall corporate tour planned with Men’s Wearhouse. Students will have a chance to tour the company office and learn more about the retail industry. There is will also be retail speakers coming to Santa Clara to speak to classes, the details of the event will be determined at a later date. Since fall quarter is our most important recruiting time, focusing on the incoming freshman, we have a Fall BBQ planned in October as an informational session for anyone interested in joining RSSA. This is a wonderful way to have the current members and those who are interested in joining, talk to one another, ask questions, and talk about their experiences in RSSA. The traditional quarterly dinner is being planned to happen within the second week after school begins. At this dinner, we’ll talk about the events planned for the quarter in more detail. This year’s Advisory Board Reception will be in San Francisco in November. This is a great opportunity for both the Advisory Board and the members of RSSA to answer questions and talk to one another.

As you can see, the fall quarter will be busy and eventful. We’re planning on every event to be a successful and enjoyable to all the members and everyone involved!
