New RSSA President - Melissa Kline

After being in the retail studies program since freshman year, I am happy to introduce myself as the new RSSA President for 2003-2004. My name is Melissa Kline and I am a senior marketing major, originally from Scarsdale, New York. I am happy to be involved in the retail studies program. I find the program and the industry fun and exciting, and therefore am extremely motivated to be president this year.

I am proud to introduce the new executive board for this year as well. Everyone on the board is extremely dedicated and enthusiastic about their positions. I am confident that this year will be fun, productive and rewarding. We have three vice presidents, Mario Diaz (VP Marketing), Brianna Donegan (VP External Relations), and Carin Posedel (VP Internal Relations). They will be over seeing the chairs of the committees which include; Newsletter (Denise Bertucelli, Briana Martini), Webmaster (David Rietdorf), Recruiting (Rosemary Miller, Shannon Smith), Mentor (Stella Palileo), Community Outreach (Patricia Tran), Corporate Liaison (Charla Davis), Publicity (Stanley Ho), and Retail Speakers (Alicia Wheeler).

This year we will have the usual quarterly dinners and corporate tours. Two tours we are planning are for Mervyn’s and Men’s Wearhouse. During the corporate tours, students will get a chance to see the corporate offices and talk with different people involved in the company. Our newsletter is ongoing throughout the year, as well as recruiting. Through dorm talks and other events, we are always looking for new members who are ready to be involved. We are planning to have different retail speakers to speak in various classes at Santa Clara to teach students more about the possibilities that the retail industry provides. We also are hoping to create some new fundraising events for our program, as well as to build the new committees we created which are Mentoring and Community Outreach. We have a busy full year ahead of us with many new members and events. I hope every event is a fun and informative learning experience for every member.
