Advanced Study of Technology - Section Two

Advanced Study of Technology - Section Two

In this class, students are introduced to advanced web searching techniques and to additional information sources available only by subscription. Candidates are asked to read and reflect on the assessment process, particularly when looking at technology-based student products such as web sites, multimedia presentations, or digital videos. Candidates will be asked to review and create rubrics as assessment tools. As a direct compliment to this activity, candidates will be asked to review several ruberic-creation web sites and to generate a ruberic of their own. Candidates will be encouraged to reflect on their teaching experiences and how the availability of technological resources and tools have impacted student learning (such as student engagement, motivation, and attitudes toward learning) within the context of collaborative, project-based learning activities. At the end of this course students will have achieved the following outcomes:

Ability to interact with other professionals through a variety of methods, including the use of computer-based collaboritive tools to support technology-enhanced curriculum,

Ability to use technological resources available inside the classroom or other locations to create technology-enhanced lessons aligned with the adopted curriculum,

Ability to use computer applications to manipulate and analyze data as a tool for assessing student learning, and to provide feedback to students and their parents

Introduction to Gottman Marital Therapy

Based on John Gottman’s “love lab,” 35 years of research on marital couples’ successes and failures, this workshop explores assessment and treatment of couples in therapy. Characteristic myths and assumptions long held by clinicians about what is "dysfunctional" when a marriage is struggling, and what is "functional" when a marriage is going well, are challenged and novel methods for treatment are explored. This model provides clinicians a blueprint for developing effective strategies to address the three central components of the Sound Relationship House model: 1) The Friendship System, 2) The Conflict System and 3) The Meaning System.

In this pragmatic workshop, Dr. Navarra, a Certified Gottman Therapist and Couples Workshop Leader will provide background information to this system, case examples and demonstration of methods for diagnoses and treatment of couples in practice.

Psychodrama: An Action Method of Psychotherapy

Psychodrama was originally developed as a group method for dealing with life’s issues. In psychodrama a person is helped to explore the psychological dimensions of his/her problems through enactment rather than by talking about them. Its techniques (role playing, doubling, role reversal etc) are now used in a variety of other therapy approaches. This workshop will briefly explore the theory and methods of psychodrama so that we will all have some basic foundation from which to work. Since psychodrama is an action technique the majority of the workshop will be live demonstrations of how to use psychodrama in group, individual and couples counseling. Through the enactment segment “clients” may become more insightful, express their feelings and practice new behaviors. Psychodrama assumes we all have issues to work on so we will be using our own issues for these demonstrations. Psychodrama does not require any acting ability but is great empathy training.
