Freshman Dorm: O'Connor Joe Meagher ’63 writes that prior to being discharged from the U.S. Navy in 1967, he married Karen (wife of 46 years) and began his teaching/coaching career at Menlo College, in California. In 2007, he retired from teaching at Woodinville High Schoo, in Washington state, where he taught history, coached basketball, and served as athletic director. Living in Bothell, Wash., he continues to coach (Jackson High School, Mill Creek) while enjoying the three grandchildren who live in the Puget Sound area. submitted Mar. 26, 2013 11:56A

Michael L. Hackworth ’63 was selected as a School of Engineering Centennial Award recipient for enriching our community, our institution, our profession, our lives, and our aspirations. As a high-tech leader and a respected senior executive, Hackworth’s experience in semiconductors with industry leaders such as Motorola, Fairchild, and Philips Semiconductor led to his founding of Cirrus Logic, where, as CEO, he grew the company to more than $1 billion in annual revenue in just ten years. His support of the Tech Museum of Innovation in San Jose encourages the next generation of engineers, and his commitment to advancing teaching, learning, and scholarship in applied ethics, and his support of women in engineering through an endowment created with his wife, Joan, makes Mike Hackworth a cherished recipient of the award.

Giachetti, Ernest
Ernest Giachetti '63, was recognized with the Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry's 2009 Medallion of Distinction. The award is the alumni association's highest honor and given to individuals who have made significant contributions to the Dugoni School of Dentistry, research, dental education, or the community. Giachetti has served on the school's faculty for 42 years. Additionally, he volunteers with a small group of fellow alumni to provide a homemade cioppino dinner for the dental school's first-year students each July. "To be recognized by the Dugoni School for doing what I love doing is incredible," said Giachetti. "It is one of the most significant and humbling honors I've ever received." Bob Garibaldi '64 has been inducted into the Sac-Joaquin Section Hall of Fame. Bob pitched for SCU in the 1962 College World Series and was named the CWS Most Outstanding Player that year. He later played four seasons with the San Francisco Giants. submitted May. 6, 2010 1:54P

Garibaldi, Bob
Bob Garibaldi ’64 was inducted into the Sac-Joaquin High School section athletic hall of fame class. In high school, Garibaldi was a star for both the basketball and baseball teams. In 1960, he led the state in scoring average with 25.3 points a game. He went to Santa Clara University and was a pitcher for the best baseball team in school history. He no-hit defending NCAA champion USC to get into the College World Series and was named the 1962 CWS Most Outstanding Player even though Santa Clara lost to Michigan in the championship game. He set CWS records for strikeouts (38) and innings pitched (27.2). He played four seasons in the Major Leagues with the San Francisco Giants. submitted Nov. 29, 2010 2:14P
