Specchierla, Lawrence
Freshman Dorm: O'Connor Lawrence A. Specchierla ’63 writes that he retired in 1999 after a 36-year career in financial management with Texaco, Inc. He lives in Palm Springs, Calif., with his wife, Maureen (Harty) ’65, and is the co-president of the Palm Springs Alumni Chapter that covers the Coachella Valley. He spends his time playing golf, traveling, recruiting high school students for SCU in the Coachella Valley, and coordinating the AARP Tax Aide program in Palm Springs. He and his wife will be celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary this year. Leon Panetta ’60, J.D. ’63 will be the speaker at the 162nd Santa Clara undergraduate commencement on June 15. Said Panetta, “Sylvia and I are honored to be recognized by Santa Clara University. Santa Clara has a special place in our hearts. It’s where we first met; it is where I learned many of the core values that have guided me from the earliest days of my career.”

Hackworth, Michael
Michael L. Hackworth ’63 was selected as a School of Engineering Centennial Award recipient for enriching our community, our institution, our profession, our lives, and our aspirations. As a high-tech leader and a respected senior executive, Hackworth’s experience in semiconductors with industry leaders such as Motorola, Fairchild, and Philips Semiconductor led to his founding of Cirrus Logic, where, as CEO, he grew the company to more than $1 billion in annual revenue in just ten years. His support of the Tech Museum of Innovation in San Jose encourages the next generation of engineers, and his commitment to advancing teaching, learning, and scholarship in applied ethics, and his support of women in engineering through an endowment created with his wife, Joan, makes Mike Hackworth a cherished recipient of the award.
