Freshman Dorm: Graham 100

Mary Ann Peters ’72 writes: "After 30+ years as a diplomat, I am back home in Newport, RI, where I am the provost of the Naval War College. My husband, Tim McMahon, is a teacher here and our children, Maggie and Blaise, are in college in Massachusetts."

Martina Nicholson '72 writes, "I am still practicing OBGYN in Santa Cruz, Calif. Recently got to sing at Blues Alley in Georgetown, with Second Wind Bandits--a song I co-wrote with Bill Mulroney, called "Velveteen Rabbit". You can check it out on the band's site at MYSPACE.COM.

Michael A. Nichols ’66, J.D. ’72 reports that he has been practicing Criminal Defense Law in Sunnyvale since 1976, and prior to that he was a Deputy District Attorney in San Mateo County.

Peggy (Lautze) Metzger '72 and Greg Metzger '73 celebrated their daughter Ellen's graduation from SCU on June 12th. Peggy and Greg live in Connecticut. Greg is with GE Capital and Peggy is an Occupational Therapist with special needs students.

Denise Traficanto McGraw ’72, M.A. ’74 teaches first grade at an Orange County Magnet School. Her husband Ambrose is semi-retired as a federal auditor and business professor. Both their adult daughters work as teaching assistants, respectively in Orange County and in northern France.

Tom MacManus ’72 currently resides in Rancho Santa Fe in San Diego County, where he runs his own real estate appraisal company.

William T. Loris '68, J.D. '72 serves as PROLAW's Program Director and as a Senior Lecturer at Loyola University Chicago's Law School. He comes to Loyola after a distinguished career in international service. He served for five years in Abidjan, Ivory Coast as a Regional Legal Advisor for West Africa to the US Agency for International Development (USAID), working on the legal aspects of the USAID program across West and Central Africa, followed by five years in Cairo as a Legal Advisor in USAID's Egypt mission. He then co-founded the International Development Law Institute, a Dutch foundation, which was later transformed into an inter-governmental organization, the International Development Law Organization (IDLO), by an international convention. IDLO is now a key international institution in the promotion of the rule of law and good governance in developing countries, countries in economic transition, and countries emerging from violent conflict.

Anna Likos ’72 writes: “I am currently living in Morocco, working for the CDC as the resident advisor to the Ministry of Health. After 2.5 years in Haiti and 2 years in the Ivory Coast, Moroccan life is wonderful! I expect, though, to return soon to the U.S., to which my husband and I are both looking forward.”

Michael J. Kennedy ’72 is a retired science teacher who now volunteers at California State University Stanislaus, at the Community Hospice, and several other organizations. He also travels internationally.

Linda Kaminski ’72 was named superintendent of California’s Azusa Unified School District. Kaminski has worked for years as an administrator as well as a bilingual teacher and was selected as superintendent because of her "variety of experiences," Azusa's school board president said in an interview. Karminski has a master's degree from Pepperdine and a master's and doctorate from Harvard University's Urban Superintendents Program.

Esau Herrera '72 is back on the Board of Education, Alum Rock Elementary School District in East San Jose, after a voluntary absence of 3 years. He also proudly reports that his daughter, Kiara, is a Bronco (SCU '12).

Esau Herrera ’72, J.D. ’76 is proud to report that his daughter, Kiara ’12, recently graduated from SCU and promptly joined AmeriCorps to "save the world." Esau is serving as president of the school board at Alum Rock School District in East San Jose, the same district that he attended as a child.

Laura Casas Frier J.D. ’82 is a candidate for Governing Board, Foothill-De Anza Community College District. She is currently vice president of the Foothill-De Anza Community College District’s Board of Trustees, member of the Audit and Finance Committee, and board ember since 2006. She is also member of the state-wide California Community College League Board.

Alayne Fardella ’72 was named chief operating officer of the Seattle Times. Fardella served in a number of leadership roles at the Seattle Times over 15 years, most recently as senior vice president/business operations. She left the company in 2010 and has since served in a consulting role. Previously, she held management positions with technology and manufacturing companies, including Intel and National Semiconductor.

Jeanne English ’72 retired after 26 years at the California DMV, where she did driving tests, specializing in big rigs.

Kerry K. Daly '72, owner of KerryOn Personal Assistants, relocated to Mill Valley and her landlord is SCU football legend, Ray "Frisky" Kalisky '36 -- a good friend to Kerry's dad, Jack F. Daly, Jr. '36.

Freshman Dorm: O'Connor

Rory Cantando '72 writes: "Diane and I will be celebrating our 30-year wedding anniversary by spending a couple of weeks on a Mediterranean cruise which begins in Rome (on September 29th and ends October 11th). We will visit Alexandria, Egypt, Jerusalem and one other port in Israel, Santorini, Naples and then returning to Rome. I am sorry that I will not be able to attend the reunion."

Craig Borba '72 was selected as administrator of the year for the state of California by the Association of California School Administrators.

Shelly (Bruneau) Barsanti ’72, a Los Gatos resident and long-time American Cancer Society volunteer, was awarded the St. George National Award at the American Cancer Society California Division Annual Board of Director's meeting on Oct. 29. This honor is presented to an outstanding volunteer in recognition of distinguished service in achieving the Society's strategic goals. “The American Cancer Society has an invaluable resource and leader in Shelly Barsanti,” said Michael Chae, Vice President, Silicon Coastal Region of the American Cancer Society. “The theme for the Board this year is ‘fighting for more birthdays starts with you,’ and Shelly is a shining example with her passion and dedication to our mission.” A breast cancer survivor, Barsanti has been a tireless leader and advocate for the American Cancer Society for 16 years. When she discovered that one of the great gaps in cancer support is for young adults, she helped found, fund, and organize a support group for young cancer patients between the ages of 19-30. She is passionate about making the volunteer experience both rewarding and educational while recognizing volunteers for their time and talents.

Peter Wise BSME '69, MBA '73 came out of retirement and accepted a faculty research associate position at the University of Colorado's Laboratory for Atmospheric and Space Physics in 2009. He lives with his wife, Julie, and their three dogs in Louisville, Colo., where they enjoy rides on the Harley, writing their blogs, and conducting research on Julie's book about Christian Sacred Sexuality.
