Woody, Meghan (Madden)

On June 23, 2012, Fr. Michael McCarthy married Austin Hamilton Woody '08 and Meghan Gonyea Madden '10 in the Santa Clara Mission, where the couple first met. Austin graduated from the Leavey School of Business with a degree in Accounting and Meghan graduated from the School of Arts and Sciences with degrees in Combined Sciences and French and Francophone Studies. This spring, Austin received his Master's in Global Policy Studies with an emphasis in International Trade and Finance from the Lyndon B. Johnson School of Public Affairs at the University of Texas. Meghan graduated from the University of Texas Health Science Center with her Master's in Public Health and began medical school at the Texas A&M Health Science Center College of Medicine. The couple now resides in Austin, TX.

Syme, Julienne (Syme)

Bobby Lorenzen 09 and Julienne Syme 10 were married at Mission Santa Clara on July 14. The wedding party included fellow Broncos William Syme 08, John Lorenzen 11, Riley Coon 09, Adrienne Syme 12 and Alexandra Hagerty 08; over 60 additional alumni were in attendance. The newlyweds will live in San Francisco.

Reynolds, Katherine

The Western New York Flash has signed Katherine Reynolds ’10 to its National Women’s Soccer League roster. Reynolds most recently played for the German club SC Freiburg.

Reynolds returns to the Flash after being a key member of the 2012 Women’s Premier Soccer League (WPSL) Elite Championship team. Last season, in the WPSL Elite Championship game, the defender netted a key goal in the penalty shootout. That goal helped lead the Flash to their third-consecutive championship, following wins in the W-League and Women’s Professional Soccer (WPS).  
 
The former Bronco was named to the M.A.C Hermann Trophy watch list and started in all 22 games in her senior year. In her junior year she was acknowledged as Team Tri-Captain and earned All-WCC Second Team honors. In 2009, Reynolds received NSCAA All-West Region Second Team recognition and was named to both the WCC Preseason All-Conference Team and the All-WCC Academic Team.
 
Katherine was a member of the U.S. U23 Women’s National Team beginning in 2007. After playing three years with the Seattle Sounders Women in the W-League, where she made 18 appearances and scored three goals, she entered the WPS. The Washington native was a fourth round selection in the 2010 WPS Draft, taken with the Boston Breaker’s fifth pick. That same year, Katherine joined the Philadelphia Independence before playing for the Atlanta Beat in 2011.

Orozco, Maria
Maria Orozco ’10, a financial aid advisor at U.C. Santa Cruz, has been elected to the Pajaro Valley Unified School District board of trustees. Having grown up in Watsonville, Orozco knows her community well. She is one of two Latinas on the board after a decade with no representative from the Latino community. About 80 percent of the district's 20,000 students are Latino. She told the press, "Education is the key to everything, the key to reducing crime in the community, the key to improving the health of our community, even the key to reducing the pressure on local and state budgets because if kids get an education, they're going to get better jobs."

Micael Nunes M.S. ’10 recently joined Ernst & Young's Operational Transaction Services Practice as a senior consultant.  He will be working on assisting clients' execution of M&A transactions from multiple levels (technology, finance, etc.). He writes, "Really excited about my new position and using the skills learned at SCU."

Brittany Luckham '10 earned a master's in clinical psychology, with an emphasis in family psychology, from Azusa Pacific University in July 2012. She will continue her studies towards a Psy.D.

Fabino, Jenna (Torosian)

Jenna Torosian '10 married Nicholas Fabino (Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo) on July 7, 2012, in Santa Barbara, Calif. Included in the wedding party were three fellow Broncos: maid of honor Kelly Torosian '14, and bridesmaids Kathryn Leahy '10 (current MBA student) and Laura Skinner '10. The newlyweds are happily settling into married life in Santa Barbara. Jenna recently joined the global wealth management group at Merrill Lynch, and Nick is a global sourcing engineer with Moss Motors.

Jenna Torosian Fabino '10 accepted a client-management position with FindTheBest.com, an unbiased, data-driven comparison site. The start-up Internet company is based in Santa Barbara, CA, where she is currently living with her husband.

Adams, Jeffrey

Jeffrey Adams 10 is appearing in the new play Animals, presented by Wide Eyed Productions, which follows a group of “twenty-somethings” kicking around their suburban hometown. The play is running as part of the FringeNYC Festival 2012 at the Kraine Theatre in New York City in August. Adams is also working on his MFA at the New School for Drama.

Mark Vetto ’11 is in his second year as a Jesuit Volunteer with Mental Health Advocacy Project, in San Jose, Calif. Based in four core values—social justice, simple living, community, and spirituality—Jesuit Volunteer Corps offers women and men an opportunity to work full-time for justice and peace. JVs serve the poor directly, working for structural change in the United States and in developing countries.

Payne, Troy

 

Troy Payne ’11 has signed with the North-West Tasmania "Tall Timbers" Thunder, a representative basketball team for the north-western region of Tasmania that competes in the South-East Australian Basketball League (SEABL).
 
At Santa Clara, Payne was awarded the Conference Defensive Player of the Year honors and averaged 5.4 points and 5.9 rebounds per game. After graduating, Payne was drafted in the NBA's D-League (Los Angeles D-Fenders) and has been working as an intern with the NBA's Cleveland Cavaliers basketball operations department.
 
He is expected to arrive in Tasmania in February.

Burke, Emily

Emily Burke ’11 is in her first year as the volunteer coach with the Bronco volleyball team, working primarily on camp and office work.  She also works with practice planning. In the past year Emily coached at Archbishop Mitty High School as the JV head coach as well as coached club for Vision Volleyball club.  She has worked at the Santa Clara summer camps for the past four years.
