Valle, Maria

Maria Valle ’12 facilitated San Jose's second annual leadership conference for young women in the spring. The theme was "Strong Girls, Strong Women."

About 260 high school girls, their mothers, and grandmothers attended the conference at the Mexican Heritage Plaza. Organized by the American Association of University Women and the Santa Clara County Office of Women's Policy, the meeting featured a series of panel discussions on economic, educational, and health equity for women—as well as discussions on crime and violence.

The week before the conference, Valle had taken a group of Andrew Hill students to Sacramento to lobby for health care for all and funding for schools. Valle is a secretary at Our Lady of Grace Nativity School.

Trasolini, Marc
Marc Trasolini ’12 began what appears to be an extremely promising career this year in Italy, where he started all year for Pesaro in the top division of the Italian Basketball League, and had, by all accounts, an outstanding first year making the transition from NCAA to the professional ranks.

“I had a really good year I think, based on moving to a different country and adapting to playing professionally,” said Trasolini. “I had very good numbers (10.4 points and 6.7 rebounds/game) for a rookie, and I have an option on my contract to return to Pesaro next season. But there’s a tremendous amount of movement in Europe with players moving all the time, and my agent is just seeing what’s out there.”

Silva, Alessandra (Czamanski)

Alessandra Czamanski Silva M.A., MFT ’12 writes, "Dear Psy fellows, I recently moved to Texas! I cannot believe that I left California, but life changes directions and we don't always know why. I am trusting the way and so far I am happy with what I have encountered in Austin. I really hope to find as good professionals as the ones I had the privilege to meet during grad school at SCU!"

Henninger, Bianca
The Houston Dash have acquired goalkeeper Bianca Henninger ’12 from FC Kansas City in exchange for the team’s third-round selection in the 2014 NWSL college draft, the team announced in January.

Henninger, recently on loan with FC Bayern Munich of Germany’s Frauen-Bundesliga, played four years at Santa Clara University before being selected by the Philadelphia Independence of the now-defunct WPS in 2011.

Henninger, 23, also played with the New York Fury of the WPSL Elite before being drafted by FC Kansas City in early 2013.

The Los Gatos, Calif. native was also a member of the 2010 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup championship team and played in all 5 games for the Gold-Medal winning U.S. team in the 2010 CONCACAF U20 World Cup qualifying tournament.

“We made a great trade in solidifying our goalkeeping needs,” Dash head coach Randy Waldrum said. “Bianca played for me with our U-23's, and she is one of the best young US goalkeepers out there.”

Frediani, Bianca

Bianca Frediani ’12 is co-owner of Bed Bandits, a company that makes and sells fire-retardant, hypoallergenic mattress toppers. For every three sold, a fourth is donated to a local shelter. It's a business model driven by compassion. "My dad was an Oakland firefighter for over 30 years," she told the Contra Costa Times, "running into fires to literally save people." She wants to make a difference. "I hope someday -- if this (company) becomes a big thing, that we can go to Third World countries and donate these mattress toppers to people who don't have beds."
