Michelle Andre '96 writes, "After working for the Merola Opera Program at San Francisco Opera as the Director of Membership & Marketing for the past four to five years, I was recruited to head up the new marketing department (as director of marketing) for an international market research firm called Decipher. I am traveling all over the world and loving the new challenges in a new industry for me. It is putting to great use my MS in IMC from GGU too, in addition to my undergraduate degrees from SCU. And I am in the 12th year of owning my own 'side' business, Andre Design & Marketing. We also welcomed our new baby daughter home from Russia early in 2012, Nadia Marie. She just turned 2 years old on May 4. She joins big brother, Niko, who will turn 7 on June 13. A photo is attached of our daughter Nadia on her second birthday with her brother Niko on the far left, and my identical twin sister's son, Ivan, in the middle."
Joseph Westfall '97 is an associate professor of philosophy at the University of Houston-Downtown. He and his wife have two-year old twins, Oliver and Eloise, and welcomed a third child, Dorothy, on May 19, 2013.
Chantel Waterbury '97, founder and CEO of Chloe + Isabel, was interviewed by the Huffington Post. Waterbury launched Chloe + Isabel after a 15-year tenure in the corporate jewelry industry. She developed, designed and sourced jewelry for brands such as Kenneth Cole, Gap Inc., Macy's, Nordstrom, Target, Kohl's and specialty retailers, and served as Director of Luxury Jewelry for DFS, division of LVMH. Chantel's interest in the direct selling space stemmed from her years at Santa Clara University, where she paid her way through college selling Cutco Cutlery, and was recognized as the top producer in the Western U.S. She regularly guest lectures at Santa Clara University, San Francisco State University, and several specialty fashion and design schools, on topics ranging from product development to retail math and merchandising.
Giovanna Gaitan O’Grady ’97 and Kevin O’Grady ’96, welcomed their second child, a boy, Callum O'Grady on June 20, 2013. He joins big sister Carine, who's 2 years old. The family lives in Sunnyvale, Calif.
Kristi Martinez ’97, Chad O'Hara and daughter Sabine welcomed baby girl Deryn Josie O'Hara on August 18. The family lives in San Carlos.
Birgitta Delurgio Hughes ’97 and husband Allen Hughes—their second child, a daughter, Faith Marie Hughes, on Oct. 22, 2012. She joins brother Rhys Delurgio Hughes, 2. The family lives in Kirkland, Wash. outside of Seattle.
Kim Gibbons MBA ’97 joined technology start-up NetNumber as its Chief Marketing Officer in November 2013. Kim lives with her family in Sunnyvale, Calif.
Jimmy Dutra '97 will join a crowded race for the 4th District County Supervisor seat in Santa Clara County.
While at Santa Clara University, Dutra was chosen among thousands of applicants to be a White House intern for President Bill Clinton. While at the White House Dutra worked in the Office of Presidential Personnel, as well as in First Lady Hillary Clinton's office.
Dutra has worked on some high-profile campaigns, including a California Gubernatorial campaign and former vice presidential candidate Geraldine Ferraro's NY Senate race.
More recently, Dutra has been working for the family business, Dutra Farms, and operating Jimmy's Pumpkins on East Lake Avenue each fall. He is 38.
The election is in June.
Christopher Donaldson ’97 and wife Tressa are overjoyed to announce the birth of their second son, Andrew Friedrich, on July 12, 2013. Chris, Tressa, baby Andrew, and older son James all reside in Laguna Niguel, CA.
Vijay (Jay) Daftary ’97 and his wife Tara welcomed a baby boy, Neal, on Feb. 8, 2013. The family lives in Reno, Nev.
Joanne Conca ’97 just moved back to Santa Clara County with her husband and two children after living in Colorado for 8 years. Both she and her husband are involved in their real estate investment business.
David Blanar '97 writes, "Hallo from England! I recently wrapped up an MA in Systematic Theology & Philosophy from the University of Nottingham—yep, you read that right. Really enjoyable work, it brought back lots of memories and made me all the more grateful for Fr. Tollini's lectures. Much love from overseas!"
Colleen Blake ’97 was named one of Silicon Valley Business Journal’s “100 Women of Influence.” As sr. director, Global People Operations, Brocade Communications Systems Inc., Blake is a key partner in driving the company’s involvement in community initiatives for young girls and women, and is responsible for the company’s diversity and inclusion strategy, including the expansion of Brocade’s Women In Networking (WIN) initiative across the globe. Blake was named to the Silicon Valley Business Journal’s 2012 "40 Under 40" list, and she is active in youth and women's organizations.
Lani L. Biafore ’92 is serving as In-House Staff Attorney for Delta Gamma Executive Offices in Upper Arlington, Ohio. While at Santa Clara, she was a member of Delta Gamma Fraternity. She, daughter Lia, and husband, Dr. Michael S. O'Mara, moved to the Columbus, Ohio area in 2012.
Bryan Stofferahn ’98 married Claire Ilog on July 6, 2013, at the Pacific Oaks Vineyard Estate in Santa Cruz, Calif. Mark Brower ’99 performed the ceremony, while Nate Baker ’99 and Rogelio Calderon ’98 served as groomsmen. Also in attendance were Jason Cook ’99, Brad Perkins ’99, Aisha Curran ’99, and Ryan Hoffman ’01. Bryan is a partner at the law firm of Connor & Bishop in San Francisco, and could not be happier right now.
Lloyd Pierce ’98 has been hired by 76ers coach Brett Brown as assistant coach. Pierce had previous stints with the Memphis Grizzlies, Golden State Warriors, and Cleveland Cavaliers. The San Jose native played for Santa Clara University from 1994-98 and played professionally in Mexico, Australia and Germany before returning to Santa Clara to join then-coach Dick Davey's staff.
On July 7, 2012, Steve O'Brien '98 wed Julianne (Visbal) O'Brien '04 in the Santa Clara Mission Church with over 40 fellow Broncos in attendance. It was truly a great day to be a Bronco! Today, the couple resides in Annapolis, MD, where Julianne works as a civil engineer with Bay Engineering, and Steve serves as the Naval Academy Athletic Association's Associate Athletic Director-Development at the United States Naval Academy. The O'Briens enjoy regularly returning to the Mission Campus for a variety of SCU events and are looking forward to making their next trip back this October for Steve's 15-year reunion.

Meredith McKenzie J.D. ’98 was appointed by Gov. Jerry Brown ’59 to the Dental Board of California. McKenzie has been vice president and deputy general counsel at Juniper Networks since 2012. She was senior director of intellectual property at Symantec Corporation from 2006 to 2012, director of litigation, licensing and IP for Cypress Semiconductor from 2001 to 2006 and corporate counsel and director of IP at Enuvis Inc. from 2000 to 2001. McKenzie was an associate for Howrey LLP from 1998 to 2000 and patent agent and design engineer at Intel Corporation from 1993 to 1998.
Imelda (Wong) Kortens '98 and Jediah Kortens welcomed their first baby boy, Jackson Robert Kortens, into the world on April 30, 2013.
Josh Hicks ’95, J.D. ’98 is a new shareholder at Brownstein Hyatt Farber Schreck, a firm practicing in the areas of real estate, natural resources, public policy, corporate, and litigation. Hicks is a member of the firm’s government relations department and taxation group. His tax practice focuses on Nevada state and local tax matters, ranging from tax planning to litigated tax controversies. Hicks’ government affairs practice focuses on representation before the Nevada Legislature, local governments and state government agencies. In addition, Hicks practices in all aspects of Nevada campaign finance and election law, including all aspects of ballot initiatives.
Olga Diaz ’98 was named Civic Leader of the Year at U-T San Diego’s second annual San Diego Latino Champions Awards ceremony.
Pallie Zambrano J.D. ’99 has been honored by the YWCA of Silicon Valley with a 2013 Tribute to Women and Industry (TWIN) Award, one of the most prestigious awards given by local and regional YWCAs nationwide. Zambrano is a partner at McManis Faulkner, a leading Northern California trial firm.
The TWIN Award program was established in 1984 to honor the outstanding achievements of female executives who have demonstrated excellence in business leadership positions and to pay tribute to the companies in which they work. Zambrano joins a group of honorees selected from Silicon Valley technology, legal, communications, nonprofit, and healthcare organizations that have acted as successful role models for other women in business, exhibited top-level responsibility in a major functional role, and who have had a substantial impact on the organization’s growth, profitability and innovation.
