Rory Cantando '72 writes: "Diane and I will be celebrating our 30-year wedding anniversary by spending a couple of weeks on a Mediterranean cruise which begins in Rome (on September 29th and ends October 11th). We will visit Alexandria, Egypt, Jerusalem and one other port in Israel, Santorini, Naples and then returning to Rome. I am sorry that I will not be able to attend the reunion."

I wanted to offer the following alumni news on the late George Bolling '72, a Santa Clara University alum and video curator at the de Saisset Art Gallery and Museum in the 1970s. Bolling's 1979 documentary "Newport Beach Revisited" is being screened regularly at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, March 5 - June 1, 2013. His pioneering curatorial work and videography at the de Saisset Art Gallery and Museum in the 1970s is the subject of a post on the SFMOMA blog Open Space. Paul Russell '73, MBA '82 was appointed senior vice president of engineering at ArrayPower, a Silicon Valley-based power electronics company.

Russell has more than 25 years of experience in technology development for companies in the solar, aerospace and defense industries. Prior, he served as senior vice president of engineering for concentrated photovoltaic solar systems provider Amonix. Additional experience includes multiple executive positions with Northrop Grumman and Space Systems/Loral, as well as systems engineering roles with Ford Aerospace.

Linda (Fernandez) Martinez M.A. ’73 writes, "I have recently semiretired in order to travel more."

Clark "Gus" Guinan J.D. '73 has retired after 39 years practicing law, the last four years as the city attorney of Burlingame. Gus and his wife, Signe, live in Berkeley.

Russell W. Gill ’73 writes, "I owned and operated Russ' RV Service for 27 years in San Diego County, then moved to Kansas in 2010 for a change in scenery after my wife passed away with MS. In 2011 I was forced to retire after suffering a massive stroke and heart attack. Today I play darts for fun and money as well as support and work with several nonprofit charities, including the National MS Society, the Heart Association, and the American Stroke Foundation."

Bob Vogt J.D. ’74 is co-producer of BottleRock at Napa Expo, held May 9-12 this year. It's "the biggest rock festival to ever happen in Napa Valley," as the Napa Valley Register writes in their recent profile of Vogt.

Barbara Beard Stephan ’74, M.A. ’78 writes that she has recently assumed the position of Clinical Director at Windhorse Integrative Mental Health in San Luis Obispo, Calif. She is delighted to be working in an environment that is in line with her view of psychology—honoring humanistic and relational ideals, as well as an integrative/holistic approach to healthcare.

Dave Scott '74, JD '77 writes: "Retired in 2002 from Silicon Valley. Spending time doing volunteer work for Norcal USTA, traveling around Europe, and splitting time between our homes in California and Colorado. Married, no kids, but friends all over."

Mark Hyde J.D. ’74 formed a nonprofit organization to challenge what was proposed to be the largest shopping center in Maui County, Hawaii, and prevailed before the Hawaii Land Use Commission in January. In February he received the 2013 Malama Ka Aina award from the Maui Chapter of the Sierra Club for his work.

Constantin Delivanis MBA '74, an entrepreneur who co-founded Sand Hill Group, BDNA, a source of information about IT infrastructure, and was the creator of Technopedia.com, a social community for IT professionals, was profiled in Forbes for his contributions to the Silicon Valley Start-up Common.

Patrice Koda Coyle '74, representing Dignity Health, was elected chair of the California Hospital Association's Governance Forum. She is a member of CHA's Executive Committee and Board of Trustees.

Julie Brooks J.D. ’74 was named one of the 100 “Women of Influence” by Silicon Valley Business Journal. As the executive VP, general counsel, chief compliance officer, corporate secretary at Conceptus Inc., Brooks oversees legal and compliance issues. Conceptus is a health care service company that focuses on women’s health. Founded in 1992, the company specializes in the design, development and distribution of medical products and services for use in the field of women’s health. Brooks is also president and director, Silicon Valley Association of General Counsel 2010–13. She received the president’s award for outstanding industry service, ARRDA, 1988.

Last February, William Mathews Brooks '74, identified a new species of coral reef fish, specifically of the goby (Gobiidae) genus, from the Indonesian seas. The new species, Eviota pamae, is a brightly colored orange and pink fish with a bright yellow midlateral stripe that runs horizontally down the side of the body. This tremendous discovery was announced in the April 2013 edition of International Journal of Ichthyology (www.aqua-aquapress.com). The journal highlighted the discovery by featuring the new species, Eviota pamae, on its April 15th cover.

Frank Boitano ’69, MBA ’74 and his daughter Lauren summited Mt. Kilimanjaro on Jan. 17, 2013.

Patrick Yam MBA ’75 is part of a team of Silicon Valley financial and sports luminaries—including 49ers president and former Facebook CFO Gideon Yu, former Oakland Athletics co-owner Steve Schott ’60, local swimmers, and city leaders—that has raised $6 million in an attempt to move the International Swimming Hall of Fame from Florida to Santa Clara, a few backstrokes from the new NFL stadium. Yam is a Menlo Park-based venture capitalist. He serves on the Leavy School of Business advisory board and was a former SCU faculty member.

Rodney D. Smith '75 is senior VP of Business & Financial Planning at Sage North America.

Bill Krause '75 has published his first book, Federico Moreno Torroba, A Musical Life in Three Acts (Oxford University Press, 2013), with co-author Walter Clark. Since leaving Santa Clara, he earned his M.M. from University of Southern California and Ph.D. from Washington University, St. Louis. He currently serves on the faculty of Hollins University in Roanoke, Virginia.

Richard DuBois J.D. ’75 was appointed to a judgeship in San Mateo County Superior Court by Gov. Jerry Brown ’59. DuBois has served as a family law commissioner for the San Mateo County Superior Court since 2002. He was a partner at DuBois and Kelly from 1983 to 2002 and a partner at Nudelman and DuBois from 1980 to 1983. He also was an associate attorney at the Law Offices of George P. Eshoo from 1975 to 1980. 

Georgianna (Lagoria) de la Torre ’75 is living in San Francisco with her husband, David. She is Vice President of Museum Management Consultants, and advises museums and cultural organizations in the US and abroad on executive leadership, planning, and audience development. Georgi and David have a son, Mateo, who just graduated from Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, where he is a legal assistant and currently applying to law school.. They also maintain a home on Oahu, where they lived for 20 years before returning to the Bay Area.
