I sent the following to my class of '78 list: think there will be any Pipestage stories? Stevie Coyle and Jim Esposito come to mind....as well as Mike Gibbons trying to get me to buy a $1 ticket (I think that's all it was) to see some guy named Steve Martin....and I said "no thanks"!!! below are responses to date: -that $1 had to be the best value in the history of entertainment. in addition to steve martin in pipestage, there were also tim weisberg, kenny rankin, michael franks, tom waits, john hiatt, and john handy. we really worked that little place out . . . . so do you suppose that when they designed the new dorm for this location, that they might have planned out a basement space that could easily function as a 300 seat facility for shows, or is that just wishful thinking. -I did go to both shows that Steve Martin put on, great memories. First of many times he used the arrow through head -I dont remember very much from September 1974 through June 1978. -There definitely should be Pipestage stories. I think I may have missed Vince Guaraldi how stupid was that! I did see Elvin Bishop, and that was great fun. Isnt it amazing that we had Steve Martin there (and missed him?!). Steve Coyle used to work at Pipestage and Ann and I would go buy quesadillas at some late hour when we couldnt cram another fact into our heads and the fab cuisine from Benson had left us longing for something savory, cheesey and packed with fat. Hey, we were 18 and thin. -We had 20 tixs for the Steve Martin show. How many screw your roommates dances were held there? Does anyone else remember Sammy Hagar doing a show there right after he left Montrose or was I hanging with Terry Vane too much that night.

I lived in Graham 300 for 3 years, Spet 1975 to June 1978. We were so glad it was just us girls! I remember hanging out by the pool getting sunburned, typing paperse for the boys from 200 if they begged very hard, the Graham Boy Packers playing under the lights in powderpuff football, building a loft so we could have a refrigerator and couch, tlkaing to Father Phil when we could coax him out of his room, watching "Roots" in the lounge, "Lots of Wine and Cheese."

Seeing Steve Martin in 1977(?) for somewhere under $1. He played the banjo and wore an arrow through his head.

A view of the pool going to Pipe stage and meeting one of my best friends for life. and that's all I can write without getting in trouble.

Building the loft in our room. Playing ping pong keg parties (had to sneak the keg past the ra)

I remember the spring of 75 hanging out by the pool and listening to Frampton live blaring from the room. Good times! The rest is illegal!

When I took my son (class of 2005) as a freshman, to his room in the same group of buildings I had lived in some thirty two years earlier. Michael Patton, my son, had the same awesome experience I did. I also remember the strawberry parties with every kind of topping imaginable! Thanks Santa Clara. Cathy Preece Patton, class of '76.c

Getting to know wonderful girls on my floor and having the under classman turn the hallway into a slippery slide with water. As I opened my door to take a break, I watched several younger girls slide past me. What fun!

Following Freshman Year lodging in the nightmare that was Swig, a group of us fought to get into San Fillipo our sophomore year, mainly because we were intrigued by the chance to build

I used to play the piano in Graham 100 on Tuesday nights and Anne roeth would play the flute and we had people who came to listen and sing and just hang out.

I lived in Graham 400 my freshman and sophomore years. The hall holds so many great memories it's hard to share just one. Lifelong friendships were developed and cemented there. Graham residents loved their experience so much that many didn't change dorms and kept the Graham community pretty much intact over the two years. Other great memories are of watching the soaps upstairs as a group, typing papers(yes, on typewriters with correction ribbons)upstairs side by side during finals week and commisserating when you omitted a footnote and had to retype the paper all over, basking by the pool in the Graham quad, barbecues, being a "Broncette," dead week distractions, panty raids, pemline, acting out and singing the entire soundtrack of Funny Girl, finding worms in the candy bars from the vending machines and freaking out...too funny. My husband of nearly 40 years courted me there and survived the sign-in sheets to visit, "parietal" hours, and passes to stay out past curfew. He was also known to throw a pebble or two at my window at all hours of the day or night to announce his arrival. Fond memories of dates, Junior Prom, and Senior Ball all began and ended at Graham 400. Living in the nurturing living environment of Graham 400 with wonderfully brilliant and talented women contributed to making my Santa Clara experience so rewarding and memorable.

I lived in the Graham residences for 3 years - 2 years in Graham 100 (122- same room for 2 years) and 1 year in Graham 400. My daughter lived in Graham 400 for her freshman year. I have 3 years of great memories. Housing integrated freshman, sophomores, juniors, and a few seniors into Graham 100 by majors my freshman year. I'm still good friends with many from the dorm- from all the classes. Freshman year (1968-69) there were still

Junior year- I was in Graham 400. I spent a lot of time sitting by the pool... one night Ann Middleton, Maureen Ittig and Lori Stewart moved my bed and all belongings out by the pool. When I came home, it was all set up like my dorm room. We howled for days!
Terry Giorgetti
As a junior, when my then boyfriend (now husband) used to pick me up, he would knock on the window- much easier than the dorm phone! Also when we walked back from Benson, we would jump over the palms- they were only 3' tall then!

Fifty years ago, Santa Clara admitted the first class of women into its undergraduate program. Gerri Beasley '65 shares some memories.

Memories . . . Steve Martin at Pipestage . . . what a deal! And who could forget the quesadillas . . . Wine and Cheese on Tuesday nights and the great dance parties that included doing the hustle in Graham 400.
When I started at SCU I was a little disappointed that I ended up on the "upperclassman" side of campus, thinking I would miss the fun associated with Swig. Soon I realized that I I had the best arrangements - I mean a pool right outside my dorm? What a community we built. Thanks for the memories.

Forgot to mention I lived in Graham 300 for two years before moving off campus and then spending my senior year as a RA in Swig on the 8th floor. Debbie Medeiros Carey Class of 80
Graham 200 was the best dorm on campus, period!! Playing frisbee over the pool and off the sides of the dorm wall all afternoon was a great stress reliever! Some even made it into the open windows! Then there were the post finals jam sessions out on the pool deck, fun stuff!! Those were the daze...
I lived in Graham 100 and I remember seeing a poor quality b/w flyer for " A Wild and Crazy Guy" with a silly balloon hat affixed to the light post outside Graham 100. Would sure like to have that now! As I recall the Doobie Brothers also played Pipestage. I also recall Huey Lewis and the News playing for a Law School function. But the most memorable was being part of the inaugural class of the "Living Learning Dorm" where I was exposed to all matter of things, including about 30 people who all went to see " The Exorcist" and then were too scared to go to sleep!
