Soup the S.J. way
A Jesuit for more than 40 years, Brother Rick Curry, S.J., is well known as the founder and director of the National Theatre Workshop for the Handicapped, a nonprofit acting school for persons with disabilities. But he is also an author and a great cook. In 1995, Curry published The Secrets of Jesuit Breadmaking, and his latest book is The Secrets of Jesuit Soupmaking: A Year of Our Soups (Penguin, 2002, $14). In addition to more than 60 delicious recipes, Curry shares many thoughtful reflections on and stories from his life as a member of the community of Jesuits. His funny anecdotes and sober meditations on his daily practice of patience, reverence, and humility serve as another kind of food for the soul.
