Ryan Kunkel '05 and wife Eleanor welcomed their daughter, Audrey June, on December 23, 2014. They currently live in Walnut Creek, CA.
Chris DeMartini ’05 and Megan (Koppes) DeMartini ’05 and big sister Abby (3) welcomed another future bronco Madelyn Grace on Aug. 1, 2014.
Keely Elizabeth (Nelson) Berg '04, M.A. '06 husband Chris, and big sister Annabelle welcomed a second child, Andrew William Berg, on March 6, 2015. The happy family of four resides in San Jose.
Katie (Roberts) Payer '06 and husband Brian welcomed a healthy, happy baby girl, Caroline Valerie, on March 19, 2015. The family of three lives in Denver, Colorado.
Kevin Hazard '06 will be a speaker at this year's Cloud Expo. He is director of Digital Content for SoftLayer, an IBM Company, responsible for developing, influencing, and managing public-facing and internal content that SoftLayer delivers through digital channels, such as corporate websites, third-party sites, and social media.
Kevin has more than 10 years of hosting industry experience, having previously managed social media and customer community engagement for The Planet and directed customer service for Site5 Internet Solutions. On a good day, he can still dunk a basketball.
Daniel Figoni ’03, MBA ’07 a Santa Clara water polo player, and Elizabeth Garvin ’06, a coxswain for Santa Clara's men's crew team, were married in NYC on Sept. 26, 2014. The wedding party included Emily Bjorklund ’06, Rachel Rasmusson ’06, and Jack Ferdon ’03. Broncos came to the Big Apple from near and far to celebrate. Caroline Vaughan ’06 from London, Bridget Murphy ’06 from Australia, and Kenny Flanagan-De La Hoz ’04 from Amsterdam made it an international affair!
Matthew Barnette '06 has been named a Rising Star by Super Lawyers magazine, putting him among the top attorneys in California for 2015. A senior associate in the Archer Norris’ Walnut Creek office, Matthew Barnette focuses his practice on litigation matters with a specialty in insurance defense. A member of the firm’s On Call Trial Counsel, Matthew has successfully defended numerous clients from the initial complaint through trial.
After nearly three years as an editor and program director at Media Matters for America, Hilary A. Tone '07 is now director of communications for D.C. Public Schools in Washington, D.C. She also teaches dance at a competitive studio in Virginia and is part of the Capitol Movement Dance Company, which sent her on a military appreciation tour last fall. She resides in Alexandria, Virginia.
Angela Schiavone ’07 married her longtime love, James Hannibal, at the Rengstorff House in Mountain View on Oct. 18, 2014. They were surrounded by friends and family under clear blue skies. Her and her husband run a wedding photography business, ShootAnyAngle (http://shootanyangle.com/weddings/), so they trained their own side shooters to handle the wedding pictures. There were a lot of special touches for the day: there were "Hidden Mickey Mouses" around the ceremony and reception, the bride's bouquet included trinkets from family members who had passed, the groom wore a wooden bowtie in memory of his grandfather who had passed, there were antique books and cameras to showcase their passions, the cake stand was made by the Father of the Bride, the Father Daughter dance was a recording of the bride singing, and the bride's shoes contained around 1,000 Swarovski crystals that she had attached by hand. It was a perfect day! Maren Lovgren ’06 and Hayley Lovgren ’08 served as bridesmaids (and they are the groom's cousins)!
Matt Hatzke '07, former San Jose Earthquakes soccer player, recently wrote an editorial for Outsports. "My life hasn't been the same," he writes, since coming out to family and friends in 2013, "as I have found happiness like I couldn't understand before. I finally felt my life finding completion...I finally felt comfortable in my own skin."
Brady Harter ’07 and his wife Francesca welcome their newest addition, Gianna Nadine, on Jan. 28. They live in Redwood City. Mom and baby are doing great! She already has Daddy wrapped around her finger.
Seasoned family law attorney Yadhira N. Gutierrez J.D. '07 joined Hoge Fenton, a leading Northern California law firm, as an associate. Gutierrez has exclusively focused on family law since January 2008 and offers her clients a full range of services, from premarital and marital agreements to strong advocacy representation when issues cannot be resolved by mutual agreement. Gutierrez is often appointed by the court to act as minor’s counsel, representing children who don’t otherwise have a voice in the family law process. She is also active in the community, working with the Santa Clara County Pro Bono Project and as a Spanish Family Court Services Orientation Instructor for the Santa Clara County Superior Court. In 2014, the Santa Clara County Bar Association’s Family Law Section honored her with the Henry B. Collada Memorial Award. This distinction recognizes extraordinary service, contribution and professionalism with a focus on the betterment of families and children involved with Family Court.
Michael Amato '07, M.S. '11 and Bianca Vallorz '07, tied the knot at the beautiful Mission Santa Clara on January 24, 2015! Even though the wedding was in the middle of winter, they were blessed with wonderful 70-degree weather and not a cloud in the sky! They currently live in San Jose, with Bianca supporting the local community working at Family Supportive Housing and Michael working at Apple.
Mandy (Liebscher) Pearson '08 writes, "After almost seven years at Facebook working as intellectual property associate in Community/Risk Operations, our family has decided to move to my home country, Germany, for a few years. I'm excited to be close to family and childhood friends again, and to share more of the German culture and traditions with our children and my husband. We'll start our adventure with a six-week road trip across the United States on July 1, arriving in Dresden, Germany, mid-August. SCU friends, if you're in Germany at some point, send me a note! :)"
Kyle Ozawa '08 currently heads up business operations for Invoice2go, one of the leading mobile apps for small businesses. In this role, he is responsible for building out the company's customer support, HR, facilities/IT, and legal teams. Prior to this he worked at Google for four years where he was senior product specialist for mobile payments and a senior account manager specializing in digital marketing, mobile advertising, and web analytics.
Kyle earned his MBA from Stanford Graduate School of business and his bachelor’s degree in marketing from Santa Clara University. Kyle currently serves on Santa Clara University’s Board of Regents. Additionally, he serves as a judge for The Tech Awards, a signature program of the The Tech Museum of Innovation that awards $500,000 annually in grants to emerging technology companies developing products and services to benefit humanity.
Blanca Garcia '08 and Christopher Salazar '06 were married on Sept. 13, 2014, at the Mission Church. The ceremony was officiated by Michael Zampelli, S.J. and the wedding party included Lucia Ulloa-Hernandez '07, Lucy (Shin) Lin '08, Jessica Ponce '07, Yuridia (Estrada) Esquivel '07 and Juan Carlos Esquivel '07. The newlyweds honeymooned in Greece and recently purchased their first home in Santa Clara.
Mark Almassy ’08 and Tera (Linsley) Almassy ’08 welcomed their second son, Henry Theodore, on Feb. 12. He joins big brother Kent (18 months). The Almassy family resides in Pleasantville, New York.
Kristina Alvarez ’09 and Addison Schroeder ’09 were married on Aug. 9, 2014 in beautiful Lake Tahoe, California. The couple celebrated with many Bronco friends including bridal party members Brian Belcher ’09, Elizabeth Carter ’09, Carey (DeAngelis) Fredlake ’05, MBA ’12, Stephen Hamakawa ’09, Margo Schroeder ’12, and Catherine Waite ’08, M.A. ’14. The couple resides in Lafayette, California.
In May, Debra Reed J.D. ’09 finished her successful Kickstarter campaign, funding the creation of herbsack.com, a line of hemp totes that are biodegradable, sustainable, and bacteria resistant. Reed founded herbsack in September 2013, when she, like everyone else in San Jose, adjusted to a regulatory ban on single-use plastic bags.
Versatile outfielder Matt Long ’09, 28, is playing for the minor leagues as a Milwaukee Brewer. He had split time mostly between Double-A Arkansas and Triple-A Salt Lake in the Angels system in 2014, combining to post a .249/.340/.384 line with 10 homers and 25 steals in 116 games. Long played at both levels each of the past three seasons, swiping more than 20 bases each year.
