Great and loving fondness

Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2007

It is with great and loving fondness that I remember Fr. Germann. If it had not been for him, I probably would not have joined the Santa Clara Community. As a junior in high school, I stopped by Santa Clara during my spring break to look at colleges since we were in the area. It was Good Friday in 1978. The campus was vacant because it was a school holiday. As my parents and I were walking around the beautiful rose gardens, Fr. Germann was walking through on his way somewhere and stopped to say hello and asked us if we were looking at colleges (I guess we were that obvious). He ended up giving us a personal tour of campus and stopped by his office to give us his personal copy of the course catalog since the admissions office was closed. He ended our time together by encouraging me to call him anytime if he could be of assistance in making my college decision. That special time at Santa Clara with Fr. Germann sealed the deal and everywhere else I visited had to "make the grade" in comparison. Obviously, and with many reasons, SCU was my school of choice. My experiences at Santa Clara included many other wonderful people like Fr. Germann, and for that I will be eternally grateful to the SCU community.
