Gerdenio Manuel, S.J.
Associate Professor, Psychology
Father Manuel's research areas of interest include coping with traumatic life events and the relationship of psychology, faith, and religious life. He entered the California Province of the Society of Jesus in 1971, was ordained as a Catholic priest in 1979, and took final vows in 1990.
Father Manuel earned doctoral and master's degrees in clinical psychology from Duke University, a master of divinity from the Jesuit School Theology at Berkeley, and a bachelor degree in political science from the University of San Francisco.
He is co-founder of the Arrupe Partnerships at the Ignatian Center for Jesuit Education, a University program that provides community-based learning through active engagement, research, and service. He was the founding director of Santa Clara University's Center for Multicultural Learning.
Father Manuel is the recipient of the Sears Roebuck Foundation Teaching Excellence and Campus Leadership Award and an American Council on Education Fellowship for Leadership in Higher Education.
A licensed clinical psychologist, Father Manuel completed his internship at Harvard Medical School in Cambridge City Hospital.
