Charles T. Phipps, S.J.

Father Charles Phipps is Minister of the Santa Clara Jesuit Community.
He received his Ph.D. at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1965 and shortly afterward began teaching in the English department at Santa Clara. He specializes in American literature and English Romanticism.
Father Phipps was director of the University Honors Program from 1968 to 1980, chair of the English Department from 1980 to 1992, director of the Drahmann Academic Advising Center from 1992 to 1995, and Minister of the Jesuit Community from 2005-2009.
