Gaining an edge in the labMary Lucas '09Biochemistry majorMary Lucas says she’s getting the most out of her education at Santa Clara. Working in a lab has given her skills and knowledge she’ll be able to put to use after graduation as she continues her studies in medical school. Lucas jumped at the chance to do research as an undergraduate, following encouragement from her professors. The biochemistry major says lab work is one of the best ways to learn about medicine, and to gain an edge in the applicant pool. “The teachers here are the best,” she says. “All of the professors in the chemistry department know their students name. They really encourage you to get involved, to think on your own, and to ask questions.”
