Using information betterDavid Zimbra '03 MSIS '07Doctoral student in artificial intelligence at the University of ArizonaPeople have developed computer systems that are very good at accumulating and storing data, but we still don’t always put the information to its best use. David Zimbra, who earned both a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in information systems through the Leavey School of Business at SCU, works to find patterns in data that can help solve real-world problems. Zimbra put his analytical skills to work with the San Jose Water Company, finding a better way to predict water demand using an artificial neural network model. He also helped a private company forecast sales commissions through computer modeling. “I’ve always found the degree to which technology impacts business and society really cool,” Zimbra says. “The program at SCU was a good fit for me.” After working for Network Appliance in Sunnyvale, Zimbra started a Ph.D. program at the University of Arizona in artificial intelligence.
